For most, suicide is hard to talk about. It is estimated that 150 people are directly affected by every suicide impact. Those left behind struggle with the initial shock, anger, guilt, despair, confusion and even feelings of rejection. Acts of Kindness (AOK Flagstaff) is a charitable organization founded by volunteers who have a close connection to those feelings, some having been through the experience themselves. They know what it feels like when a friend or relative dies by suicide, and understand the grieving process is different.
Acts of Kindness is not a suicide prevention organization. It offers community support to families by supporting those affected by a suicide of a loved one with “bags of kindness”, useful items to show someone cares and understands. Financial support is also offered for funeral costs. The caring volunteers are also people to contact, during all phases of the grieving process, offering referrals to professionals who can help.
The organization also supports first responders witnessing trauma on a daily basis through acts of kindness to show appreciation. Finally, by sponsoring events like the “Zombie Blood Drive” AOK supports broad-based programs for the overall good of the community.
Acts of Kindness is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is one hundred percent volunteer. All of the money raised through events, individual and corporate contributions, go directly to programs.
