Annual Zombie Blood Drive
Often overlooked, our community needs blood! Acts of Kindness along with its partner Vitalant Community Blood Services have been the driving force behind one of the most successful blood drives in Coconino County, the Zombie Blood Drive. In fact, in 2018, the Zombie Blood Drive was named the most creative blood drive in the world by ADPR, the international division of America’s Blood Centers.
In 2019, the Zombie Blood Drive had 112 Zombie blood donors- helping AOK achieve 108% of its goal! Of those, 28 were first time blood donors, and you know what they say…Once a Zombie Donor, always a Zombie donor! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
All of us at AOKFLAG are so thankful for all of you who showed up at the Spring Zombie Blood Drive, which was on May 1, 2020. Many community members stepped up to meet the need during these challenging times. We really do love all of our Zombie donors and hope to see you at our even bigger blood donation event on Thursday, October 29 for the 7th Annual Zombie Community Blood Drive.

AOK believes that helping Arizona keep a healthy blood supply for those in need is part of our mission. We have partnered with Vitalant (formerly known as United Blood Services), one of the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit community blood service providers.

- One donation saves 3 lives
- Every 2 seconds, a person needs blood
- Each year, nearly 5 million Americans need blood transfusions
- Blood helps trauma and burn patients, premature infants, heart surgery patients, organ transplant recipients and those fighting cancer, among others
- In emergencies, it’s the blood already on hospital shelves that saves lives
- Most donors are over 40--we need young people to start donating or we could run out!

Vitalant, formerly known as United Blood Services, thanks you for organizing the recent blood drive at AOK Spring Into Action Mini Zombie. Your drive will help to assure that blood is available for patients in need.
At the blood drive, 56 lifesaving donors stepped up to donate, resulting in 47 procedures for our community and reaching 121% of your blood drive goal.
Your efforts and the support of AOK Spring Into Action Mini Zombie are greatly appreciated and will go a long way toward assuring a strong blood supply, and ultimately saving lives.
